The past few weeks have been very interesting for Green Renters with a trip to Sydney and a presentation at the Sustainable Living Festival, so what’s next? (more…)

Sustainable Living Festival Melbourne

Thursday, February 4th, 2010

The Festival raises awareness and provides tools for change by showcasing tangible solutions to the ecological and social challenges we face.

In 2009 the Festival at Federation Square attracted over 124,000 visits and engaged more than 450 community volunteers.

In its eleventh year, the Festival is getting even bigger!

The 2010 Festival will include 2 programs, the Main Event at Federation Square (19-21 February 2010) and the Local Events Program (6-21 February 2010). The new 2-week format will enable individuals and communities across Australia to host and promote their own sustainability event, extending the reach of the sustainability message even further.

The Main Event at Federation Square in the heart of Melbourne will continue to celebrate the very best examples of ecological and social sustainability. The event will fuse interactive workshops, talks, demonstrations, artworks, exhibits, films and live performances. In recognition of the climate situation, the Main Event will be inspired by the theme: Get Ready for the Safe Climate Decade!

Looking for a Green Tenant or Landlord?

Friday, October 16th, 2009

logoOk, we admit, the classifieds section we started testing wasn’t all that good… Then we came across www.greenrenter.com that is precisely what you’ve been asking for, listings for environmentally minded tenants and landlords looking for each other, and unlike Green Renters, it’s dedicated to the task.

It’s mainly US focused, but has International listings and after we had a little chat to them, they’ve tweaked the address settings slightly to make allowances for Australian listings and are open to listings from other countries if the demand is there.

So start adding your listings and lets help a site with a great idea grow!

Green Renters Classifieds testing open…

Saturday, September 12th, 2009

After many requests from Tenants and Landlords, we’ve opened our Green Renters housing board for testing (before we officially launch it).

This board is aimed at Tenants and Landlords seeking each other and nothing else at this point, so take a look at www.greenrenters/classified, post a test ad (or a real ad of course!) and let us know any comments, criticisms etc…

Green Renters in the media

greenslogo-pms375-196x170Apart from writing this blog, we’ve been busying ourselves with writing workshops (see the page link to the right) and articles for several magazines, the first of which has now been published.

So click here to read an article we wrote on Green Renting for the Australian Green party’s members magazine.

We had a wonderful but tiring weekend at the Melbourne Social Forum ( We were part of the organising team) and I am starting to think about some new creative ideas, ways for social and environmental engagement, voluntary simplicity and lots more…stay tuned..
We presented a workshop on ways to be environmentally friendly when you are on a low income and/or live in rental accomodation and had a stall promoting Green Renters.

Here’s my buddy Lisa who tirelessly worked on our stall on Saturday while we were running around doing organising duties. She got her face painted green to celebrate green renting! Hurrah!
