Green Renters trip to Sydney and SLF

The past few weeks have been very interesting for Green Renters with a trip to Sydney and a presentation at the Sustainable Living Festival, so what’s next?

Two weeks ago we were in Sydney for a series of workshops and meetings, so how did it all go?
Generally, pretty well!

Workshops attracted a small and variable crowd that gave us good feedback and were interested in what we had to say, the councils we worked with were all engaged in excellent work and projects with some amazingly dedicated staff and we even learnt a few interesting things ourselves!

We were also invited to meet with a group of state politicians including representatives from the Department of Sustainability and the Department of housing where we were invited to present our ideas and thoughts on issues affecting renters, how they could be addressed in the future and how to attract participants to such workshops and events.

This was perhaps one of the more interesting aspects that popped up time and again during our trip, council and government employees asking us how to attract ‘non greeny’ people to environment and sustainability events, no one really had a straight answer but we exchanged plenty of ideas and thoughts on the issue.

Another outcome from the trip was a great deal of positive encouragement towards us and Green Renters and a great deal of surprise that we weren’t funded at all, so in recent days we’ve started investigating taking Green Renters further from the project of passion it currently is and into something more serious and professional.

Likewise our presentation and presence at the recent Sustainable Living Festival received positive feedback and provided a plethora of opportunities for us to investigate several exciting new projects and products as well as networking.

So in summary, the past few weeks has filled us with a desire to take Green Renters to the next level, whatever that may mean at this point remains to be seen, but watch this space… Plans are afoot!
